WASHINGTON — Top business executives on Wednesday cautioned President Trump to dramatically expand the number of coronavirus tests in the U.S. before he reopens the economy, according to a report.
In the call with banking and financial services executives — the first meeting of Trump’s new coronavirus economic task force — the president was told the availability of COVID-19 tests needed to increase before people could be confident enough to return to work and everyday life, The Wall Street Journal reported.
According to the report, participants on the hour-long call with more than three-dozen executives, including from the hospitality, retail, financial and food and beverage industries, lavished praised on the Trump administration’s response to the pandemic.
But the participants also went on to say current testing levels were inadequate and said they were trying to secure their own coronavirus testing for employees and customers, the report said.
